A little Fun!

The kids school had a dance at Eastview Middle School last night. The Spring Hop was a good time. On The Mark was the DJ, full of good games, as usual. My lovely Client Krista was in charge of putting the dance on and did a super job of decorating everything.
It's Krista's husband in my phonebook ad holding their youngest daughter.

Finding What's good...

Yikes. WE've been in Edmonton a LOT lately. My Mother in Law's surgery went ok. At first. I saw her last Wednesday night after the Professional Photographers of Alberta meeting. She knew who I was, what day it was, and seemed quite well for all the tubes coming out of her. They removed several organs and bits. Then came the 'complications' they'd warned her of. She went from lucid, aware and healing to near dead in the space of a day. After a surprise second trip to the operating room late saturday night all the Dr.'s could say was that she was alive. That all by itself was apparently a major victory, because it had not looked so certain during the day. Her quality of life will be seriously different when she gets out. My husband was so shaken after the Dr. prepared him for the worst. My kids are worried about Gramma, and sick of the Royal Alex Hospital. I'm not sure they'd like another one any better. Aunt Jeannie (MiL's Sister) had come from New Zealand to be with her. She is a super cool person. Like my husband, totally good in a crisis. She had to leave on Tuesday morning as was feeling quite regretful about it. Hopefully she'll make it back in a month.
Kevin (Mr. Me) and I took some time to hit the park with the kids and just have some fun.
We'll be spending a lot of time in Edmonton with the family over the next few weeks, still taking calls when we are not at the hospital.

Cara Cara bo Bera...

I spent part of today shooting pretty pampering products (say THAT five times real fast) at my friend Cara's Spa - BodyContours.
I can't believe I didn't snap ONE picture of her. That's next! She is going to use some of my ladies and artsy images as a part of her redecoration. After buying the spa last year she has slowly made the changes that make her beautiful place more like her. Natural, earthy, fun, and relaxing. It's going really well. She has all these nifty things from O'Canada Soapworks in Canmore. It's so 'natural' (ok, it's nearly crunchy) you could probably eat it. Bath salts, soap, lip balm, cuticle goo (don't know the real name for it...it's goo...that's all I really know) body moisturizer that looks like miniature deoderant...Fun Stuff!
Anyway, Cara is just such a super person I can't think of a place I'd rather go for highly personal waxing or fun snazzy pedicures. She doesn't even mind that I always choose FIVE separate (yet thematic) colours for my toes. She just picks the nicest order from the big toe on down to the one that cried wee wee wee all the way home. Nobody Rocks like Cara when it comes to esthetics.I first met her at the World of Women Show in 2003 and got to know her better when some wedding clients bought me a gift certificate at Body Contours. (Yes, that's right, there are a LOT of perks to being the 'good photographer') ;)

Loopy Week...

Last week my family got some not so cool news about my Mother in law.
She's got a tumour in her belly that weighs nearly 15lbs. I've never even heard of such a thing, unless you count the Weekly World News tabloids at supermarket check outs. The size is a problem.
It's kind of scary. We went up to Edmonton to be with her over the weekend. Our family is pretty good with the whole Moral Support / impromtu comedy troupe thing, and she enjoyed having us around.
Her sister is coming in from New Zealand. My husband is handling this, like all of life's little pains, with amazing calm and practicality. (unless I'm shooting him in his jammies - then he's mighty quick with those pillows) He and his sister meet with the Cancer Wizard tomorrow, and the biggest surgery ever happens in just a couple of weeks.
When I met my Mother in law 12 years ago, she was instantly accepting, welcoming, inviting me right into the family. Not every woman would do that considering I came equiped with a baby. She taught me to sew, actually gets my sense of humour, is a super grandma, and has always been there for us. Whatever we can do, we will be there for her.
She'll be alarmed that I posted this photo of her saying goodbye to me on Sunday morning...There is toast in her mouth, and she's in her nighty. I say who cares? A generous woman with toast in her mouth. No one will mind. We just want her to be ok.
